BSNL to increase the speed of all plans from 512 Kbps to 1 Mbps with effect from August 1. This means that slower downloads after the FUP (Fair Usage Policy) limit of 2 Mbps would well, be faster.
Earlier, users would get a bandwidth of 2 Mbps till 1 Gb and 512 Kbps beyond. The new revision would double the bandwidth that users get across the nation.
The decision was after Reliance Jio and other ISPs rolled out their revised data tariffs which provided high speed data access at a much lower cost than what BSNL offers.
The new decision would let users stream 720p videos, let them make video calls, and download files at a faster rate.
This would in turn be useful to both users and companies that provides services online.
Even though we welcome the decision along with everyone on Twitter, The fact that it is 2016 and the basic internet speed being provided being 1 Mbps is contradictive to the Digital India and other schemes launched by the government and the fact remains that half a billion internet users in India, which is a country emerging as a top nation is getting sub – standard internet speed is depressing. TRAI should set the basic internet speed that an ISP should provide to at least 5 Mbps.
